Costly Grace

This Sunday we’ll be looking at Jesus’ call to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow Him. Following Jesus is not about cheap grace, it is about costly grace. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, “It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life.”
Through the life of Peter, we’ll see what this looks like: leaving everything at Jesus’ invitation, stepping out in faith, stumbling and failing, being restored, and ultimately surrendering his whole life to Christ. Peter learned what it meant to deny himself, take up his cross, and follow; not out of duty, but for the joy set before him.
The question for us is: are we living as true followers, walking in costly grace, or settling for cheap grace?
